For the past decade, Framestore has been using game engines and emerging realtime technologies to develop breakthrough immersive experiences. In recent years, these technologies have also begun to transform commercial, TV and film VFX production.

The Realtime Supervisor is a team and project leadership role in Framestore’s US offices, continuing to drive the direction of the business into new technology areas such as Extended Reality (XR), experiential applications within immersive venues, as well as supporting more established mediums with new workflows and technologies.

This role will focus both on leading ongoing project development and related solutions, in addition to the management and hiring of other realtime/technical artists within the US. As this is a growth area of the company, it will require a proactive, entrepreneurial spirit: the right candidate will be a clear communicator, building relationships across the company with the goal of working with various teams to develop new solutions and ensuring the work to be best in class.

This is a full-time staff role with benefits and working on a hybrid work model with some days in office and some days remote, ideal candidates will be based locally in New York, but open to discussing a fully remote (must still be based in the United States) agreement for the right individual.

  • The Realtime Supervisor oversees projects powered by realtime technology (such as Unreal Engine or Unity). They will be working with both technical artists and other 3D artists on each show, and are responsible for ensuring clear direction, communication, and that the team is equipped with proper knowledge and tools

  • On projects, the Realtime Supervisor will be working with related project leads in Development, Production, Design & Creative to make overall decisions about the choice of technology and respective workflows to be deployed, and how to staff projects to deliver at the highest standard within established budget and cost constraints

  • Working with HODs/ teams in Pipeline, Systems, Development, and CG, as well as other global leads, they will be responsible for establishing an efficient realtime workflow/pipeline for current and future projects

  • The Realtime Supervisor will work with the producer on aspects of project management, providing feedback on production schedules, crewing and working with the teams to deliver projects on time and budget. They will take responsibility for the profitability of projects and contribute in any way possible to help advise on what decisions that may affect this

  • Involvement with the global new technology teams, working closely with all creatives and technicians involved in pushing the technical and creative boundaries across the company. They will work closely with Framestore’s real-time leadership team to ensure all technological development or products are leveraged across the global business

  • Work with the Global Head of CG to help develop CG artist skill sets using tools like Unreal Engine and Unity, and implement new workflows across both Immersive projects and VFX projects using game engines, LED walls, motion capture and/or virtual production techniques

Job requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in Gaming and/or VFX industries
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience of using Unreal Engine in a full-time capacity
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering high-quality projects for premium clients utilizing realtime technology

  • Demonstrated ability to manage teams and complex projects

  • Deep knowledge of Unreal Engine, with advanced knowledge of Unreal’s Blueprint System. Working knowledge of Unity is desirable.

  • Advanced knowledge of Maya and Houdini, and experience with a range of content creation software including Photoshop, Zbrush/Mudbox, Substance Painter

  • Production experience with VR, AR & Mixed Reality, understanding of the various current and emerging platforms and their capabilities in regards to visual assets. Production experience with large-scale screen and/or projection based installations

  • Extensive experience and understanding of visual effects, including recent supervision experience, virtual production experience a plus

  • Ability to work closely with technical artists, tools & pipeline developers, and engineers to glean desired technical and artistic output Scripting and/or programming skills are a plus

  • Demonstrated excellent leadership skills across all levels, strong communication and problem solving skills

  • Experience with staff management including hiring, reviews and providing consistent and constructive feedback
