The Texture Head Of Department is responsible for managing the texture department in their respective location, working closely with modelling, lookdev, lighting, and show supervision to deliver assets and images of the highest quality for film and episodic productions.
Responsibilities:
Work closely with production to schedule texture work and assign
texture artists based on show needs, and assist in strategies on how
to navigate busy periods
To be aware at all times of current & future (potential) work and the
projects’ various texture requirements
Work with recruitment to hire new artists, conducting interviews and
pro-actively sourcing candidates
Meet regularly with other asset HODs (modelling, rigging, groom,
lookdev) as well as Head of Creatures to ensure efficient workflows
and support in any technical challenges and innovation on shows
Attend monthly global texture HOD meetings to report crewing
status’ and contribute to ongoing department development.
Communicate & work closely with Framestore’s other texture HODs
to ensure a steady exchange of knowledge within Framestore
globally
Work closely with the department manager in managing the artists
Conducting appraisals, salary negotiations, training and career
development. Overseeing any Performance Management issues
within the team, when appropriate
Work with Global Head of Creatures to develop texturing
methodologies and how they integrate with the other asset
departments. Present yearly departmental roadmap to Heads of CG
and Global Head of Creatures
Work with department manager and Global Head of Creatures to
continually assess the texture team’s composition and formulate
plans to improve the team as a whole
Stimulate team cohesion and homogeneous workflows where
sensible & possible
Work with Global Head of Creatures to help refine and drive ManD
development cycles as they relate to texture work, promoting
consistency in approach and execution of the texture work
Work closely with lighting HOD, attending lighting dailies to be aware
of current show issues and demands
Work with Heads of CG to raise the profile of the texturing
department at Framestore. Investigate a closer relationship with
lookdev, promoting the texture artists to be using interactive
rendering and the Mari bridge to produce “ready to go” setups.
