The Paint and Roto Supervisor plays a key senior role in driving the overall direction of the Prep department in the production of Visual Effects. The Supervisor will be responsible for the quality control of the Paint, Roto and Prep work both in-house and outsourced, ensuring that project-specific requirements are met and that the general objectives set by Framestore are achieved. Day to day the Paint and Roto Supervisor will report into the Head of 2D and Deputy Head of 2D, work closely with the show production teams to assist with bidding and scheduling the work for outsource, QC incoming work and communicating with vendors or off-site teams.
Key Responsibilities
Work closely with production and comp sups/leads to bid and schedule work
Work with the Heads of department to assign Leading duties to other Leads on the project
Work on the box where necessary to deliver high quality shots
Direct tasks to junior/mid/senior level artist and crew shots appropriately to their level of expertise
Take responsibility for the quality of the work of the team as a whole
To create and deliver Training for all levels of artist
Maintain department standards across all shows
Prepare the necessary setups/templates/toolsets for the paint and roto team on shows
Work proactively and collaboratively with the HOD’s and all other VFX and support departments
Attend client briefs and lead daily reviews with the Compositing Supervisor as necessary/requested
Run Dailies sessions and Rounds for the paint and roto team on their show
Balance the creative and technical aspects of each shot/sequence
Solve any difficult technical and artistic Paint and Roto challenges of a shot or sequence
Take a leadership role in guiding the longer-term goals of the Prep department, covering both building up a team as well as Prep pipeline development, including taking into account stereoscopic projects
Ensure ingest from outsource is running smoothly
At least two years previous experience in a leadership role
Proven excellent communication skills with immediate team and other departments of the visual effect pipeline
Knowledge and experience in stereoscopic projects - native and post stereo
Several years experience in Paint and Roto predominantly in VFX film, TV or commercials
Expert user of Silhouette, Mocha, Nuke plus other relevant software
Critical eye for detail
Able to work well under pressure
Highly organised

Be prepared to travel to other facilities to help training and workflow homogenisation
