Data Services Manager (12 month Maternity Cover)

Job description

Framestore are looking for a Manager to lead the Data Services team in the London Facility from March 2021 for 12 months maternity cover. The team is responsible for the day-2-day management of all project data - this includes processing incoming client data, managing data transfers, QC/delivery and final project archives.

The team supports the IA side of our business which incorporates traditional TV advertising, episodical broadcast content, location based entertainment projects, VR, Design and Rides. Some of these workflows are emerging and the Data Services Manager will work closely with the Operational teams to formulate processes for these less traditional workflows.  


  • Day-2-day management of the Data Services team (5 people) which includes; 
  • Monitoring, tracking and transferring data throughout the facility.
  • Preparing incoming data and assets for VFX post production e.g. EDLs, artwork and audio
  • Technical support for the Artists and Production departments.
  • Assisting client attended VFX and Colour sessions.
  • Processing media for delivery, including broadcast standards.
  • QC of final masters and client deliverables.
  • Archiving data into a tape library

Job requirements

Essential Skills
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead a busy department.
  • Good understanding of the VFX process concepts and terminology.
  • Proficient use of Adobe Creative Suite.
  • A familiarity with Linux, Mac OSX and Windows.
  • Ability to read and understand broadcast video & audio scopes
  • Ability to read and interpret a delivery specification
  • Familiarity of UK broadcast specifications
  • Experienced with common data transfer protocols and applications e.g. Aspera, Signiant, FTP
  • Good understanding of digital video formats e.g. codecs, compression, framerate, resolution
Desirable Skills
  • Python or shell scripting experience
  • Familiarity with basic linux concepts and using the command line.
  • Understanding of NetBackup and LTO tape formats
  • Working knowledge of video tape machines e.g. HDCAM
  • Experience with any of the below - Flame, Nuke, Avid, Baselight, Maya
