Method Studios’ film and episodic teams are integrating with Framestore as part of an exciting plan to offer innovative, best-in-class visual effects animation from four continents.

Method’s Montreal, Melbourne and Vancouver studios are in the process of being integrated with Framestore, and we hope to have this work fully completed by March 2022.

Method Montreal is looking for a creative Digital Matte Painter to join our amazing team. Reporting to the Head of DMP, the Digital Matte Painter will create photorealistic set extensions.

In this role, you will:

  • Create matte paintings for complex camera-mapping;

  • Be responsible for all basic colour integrations to the plate/environment;

  • Perform tasks and corrections given by the Supervisor;

  • Work closely within different departments in order to balance needs;

  • Create concepts for shots;

  • Deliver different elements (with the correct name) to the compositing department.

Job requirements

This job is for you if:

  • Between 3 and 5 years of experience as a Digital Matte Painter;
  • Knowledge of film formats and aspect ratios;
  • Strong knowledge of Photoshop, Maya, Nuke and Houdini;
  • Experience with 2D techniques including, colour space, layer management and delivery to compositing;
  • Strong knowledge in painting with 32bit;
  • Good knowledge of Terragen;
  • Knowledge of artistic principles as well as in photography;
  • Familiar with Katana and SpeedTree;
  • Proficiency in creating completely believable, feature-quality digital sets;
  • A good artistic eye for composition and photography;
  • Eager to provide or acquire photographic reference;
  • Proven ability to work closely with other artists under tight production schedules;
  • Ability to work in teams and with other departments;
  • Able to react and respond quickly to the management and clients needs;
  • Clear knowledge on how to properly name different elements before delivering them to the compositing department;
  • Experience with 3D techniques (modeling, texturing, lighting etc.).
