Framestore is a world leader in visual effects and animation across Film, TV, Advertising and Immersive. Having won multiple industry awards for our work, Framestore is now looking to bring the same level of excellence to our real-time capabilities.

Focussed on high quality asset creation, the Senior Asset Builder is a lead/senior level 3D artist, capable of modeling, texturing and shading for 3D characters, objects, props and environments which are optimised for real-time workflows in Unreal Engine. The Senior Asset Builder would play a core role in the team, working towards the delivery of high-quality products and projects for both IP and brand clients across a range of mediums on cutting edge hardware; VR, AR, real-time animation, virtual production and other exciting platforms.

The Senior Asset Builder works under the supervision of the Real-time Supervisor and must be able to take artistic direction in order to deliver on brief and on time. The Senior Asset Builder would be expected to lead and mentor the real-time asset team, as well as being capable of running point with the larger core CG Framestore team. They should have a strong sense of design, composition and art direction and possess initiative. Experience of modelling for real-time is essential, with a working knowledge of real-time techniques for lighting and FX a plus.

Job requirements

Required Skills

  • Demonstrable leadership skills

  • Build, Texture and LookDev models efficiently
    • Maya, ZBrush, Substance Suite & common DCC tools (Houdini a plus)

  • Understanding of best practices for poly and texture budgets to deliver optimised performance

  • Good knowledge of topological considerations when modelling for deformation

  • Passion and knowledge for good design, composition and lighting practices

  • Able to successfully take and interpret creative direction

  • Adaptable and accepting of creative change throughout a project

  • Create performant models from more complex and higher resolution VFX/CAD assets

  • Working knowledge of Unreal’s material system

  • 5+ years in games or interactive media

Desirable Skills & Attributes

  • Core understanding of rigging

  • Working knowledge of real-time techniques for lighting & FX

  • Experience working with XR

  • Understanding of Unreal blueprint system

  • Positive attitude towards learning and sharing

  • Deadline oriented; able to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Able to solve problems as they arise and remain calm in high-pressure situations

  • Knowledge of cinematic language and associated technical terminology
