We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced engineer to join the global Systems Engineering development team. This is a team of around 17 engineers who work collaboratively, share experiences, knowledge, provide mentorship and peer review. The team works closely with other systems support teams, production departments and stakeholders.

The role’s focus will be to provide expert storage support and development to manage and enhance our globally distributed storage estate: a combination of Solaris, Linux NVMe, GPFS, Qumulo profiles, using (primarily) ZFS file system, providing high performance, highly available, multi-petabyte capacity to Framestore’s systems and production departments.

Many projects within Systems Engineering are multidisciplinary and there will be opportunities to work with colleagues on projects which do not have storage as the primary technical component.

The successful candidate will be working in a DevOps/SRE environment to evolve our storage products within a team who work closely to Agile principles. They will also provide the most senior (level 3) point of escalation for systems support requests. The ideal candidate will have a desire to use existing skills as much as having a strong interest in learning new techniques and technologies.

You will report to the head of the department and will work closely with all the technical teams in the Systems Engineering department and collaborate with engineers from other technology groups.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design, development, maintenance and evolution of our global storage estate
  • Level 3 escalation for storage operational issues
  • Ensuring business continuity through resilience, automation, metrics and data analysis
  • Monitoring and SRE
  • Communication and collaboration with stakeholders, 3rd party vendors and other technical teams

Job requirements

Required Skill Set:

  • Ansible (or similar config management systems)
  • Git
  • Linux and Solaris operating systems
  • Enterprise storage hardware experience - Dell, NetApp, Supermicro
  • Storage protocols - NFS, SMB, SAS, FC, iSCSI

Desired Skill Set:

  • Agile/Scrum
  • VMWare VSAN
  • Experience with Python/BASH
  • Experience with Gitlab CI/CD
  • Backup solutions (NetBackup)
  • Experience with Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)

Framestore staff have the option to split their work time between home and the office, though some office attendance will be expected for certain team meetings, so the candidate will need to be able to commute into the London office easily.
