Job description

Framestore’s newly formed VisDev division seeks an exceptionally skilled Visual Development Artist who possesses a passion for VFX and is keen to join a dynamic team to help lay the foundations of the department.
In this role, you will be able to explore and propose ideas that will help to answer creative questions on asset designs and builds (characters, props, vehicles, environments, fx) and help to define shot moods. Working quickly and creatively you will enable supervisors and clients to materialize ideas and help to establish their vision. You will be able to use a variety of methods and workflows without being tied to a specific pipeline, in order to focus on creativity and speed.


Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the visual development supervisor to quickly provide photorealistic images using both 2D and 3D processes and help to answer creative and technical questions during both pre-production and production stages.
  • Help supervisors sell their vision for a shot/asset to clients by coming up with original designs and good visual references.
  • Collaborate with the team to create the best possible result.
  • Work on tight deadlines with frequent iterations when necessary.
  • Work to get approvals on looks quickly to give time for the downstream departments to achieve these looks through proper builds.

Job requirements

 

  • Extensive visual background
  • Deep knowledge of Blender and PBR workflow

  • Strong demonstrable experience for color, composition and digital cinematography.
  • Good experience in film VFX processes, previous experience in animation/commercials is a plus.
  • Ability to translate briefs from Supervisor into visuals in an efficient and structured manner to offer variations and alternative ideas.
  • Excellent knowledge of shortcuts available to create powerful visuals under pressure and short turn around times.
  • Good attention to detail and a proactive approach to identify and resolve visual issues in order to maintain quality and logic within the outputs.
  • Good work ethic and methodology.
  • Able to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Ability to find and analyse meaningful references and extract the essence of it.

Desirable skills

  • Good understanding of practical cameras and photography.
  • Strong Modeling/Texturing/Lighting workflow
  • Knowledge of 3D softwares (Maya(and Arnold), Houdini, Zbrush, Marvelous,Mari/Substance) and Nuke.
  • Digital Matte Painting experience is a plus.
  • At ease with creating various kinds of work: environments, creatures, vehicles, weapons, fx, architecture.
  • Working knowledge in the following fields is a plus: geology, anatomy, industrial/graphic design, physics, architecture.
  • Eagerness to learn and level-up – we are open to applicants who do not possess a background in film VFX.
