Framestore brings together world-class producers, artists, and technologists to craft visually striking work across advertising, episodic, and immersive productions. Our teams blend creative ingenuity with cutting-edge technology to deliver high-end visual effects, immersive storytelling, and premium content for global clients, brands, and broadcasters.

Framestore combines talent and technology to bring life to everything we create. Driven by creativity and inspired by the future, we set out every day to reframe the possible.

About the role

This is an expression of interest for upcoming roles within our team. As we build our talent pool for future projects, please note we are currently only considering UK-based artists at this time.

As a Lookdev & Texture Artist, you'll drive the look development of CG assets for high-end, photo-realistic projects, collaborating closely with our modelling and FX teams to solve complex CG challenges. You'll craft the textures, colours, and organic surface qualities that bring our computer-generated creatures and hard-surface models to life. Using Houdini and Substance as your primary tools, you'll create immersive experiences that captivate our audiences.

What you’ll do

  • Drive look development of assets as briefed by your Visual Effects/CG Supervisor or Lead.

  • Create high-quality textures, colours, and organic surface qualities for characters and objects.

  • Scrutinise real-world reference colours and materials, replicating them faithfully in CG.

  • Build scenes and assets efficiently in Houdini to keep the render footprint low.

  • Quality control texture maps prior to publishing to ensure consistency.

  • Collaborate with CG Supervisors and the Modelling department to determine the best approach for the final look.

  • Maintain high quality while hitting schedule and deadline targets.

  • Share techniques, reference material, and ideas with your team.

  • Support your Lead by mentoring and training less senior artists.

  • Communicate regularly with Production and Leads regarding your progress.

  • Continue to become familiar with new tools, software, data, and other related technology.

Job requirements

  • Previous experience in texture creation and look development.

  • A thorough knowledge of Houdini as a primary lookdev tool.

  • Extensive knowledge and production experience with Substance, Photoshop, and Mari.

  • Extensive knowledge of Arnold.

  • Extensive knowledge of physically plausible shading techniques.

  • Excellent organisation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to thrive under pressure and meet deadlines without compromising on quality.

  • Openness to direction and adaptability to work within set workflows while creatively solving pipeline issues.

You might also have

  • Experience with digital paint software like Photoshop or Mari.

  • Experience working with effects elements and volume rendering.

  • Experience with real-world lighting and photography.
