Who Are We
Framestore combines talent and technology to bring life to everything we create, whether in film, episodic, advertising or immersive experiences. Driven by creativity and inspired by the future, we set out every day to reframe the possible.
About the role
Framestore is seeking a CG Supervisor, the creative and technical cornerstone for our Melbourne studio. This is more than a leadership role; you are the architect of the entire CG pipeline and the driving force behind a world-class team of artists.
The CG Supervisor is part of the leadership team on VFX projects, working closely with the VFX Supervisor and Producer. CG supervisors are responsible for all CG aspects of a VFX film, they lead the development of the CG methodologies for our projects, and supervise the execution of the CG work across all departments.
The CG Supervisor works closely with the Producer to facilitate the scheduling of artists and resources on their project and partners closely with the VFX Supervisor to provide technical and artistic notes, as well as direction to the VFX teams.
The CG Supervisor is involved in client interactions in order to represent Framestore's capabilities, both technically and creatively. They drive the successful delivery of the CG work, work closely with Production, the Heads of Departments, the Department Management team, as well as the Technology and Render teams.
What you’ll do:
Work with the VFX Supervisor to explore and create the look of a film to a client's requirements and specifications
Receive the client’s brief, discuss Framestore's capabilities and determine the CG methodologies in order to deliver the project
Provide clear direction to all CG departments, setting clear objectives and monitoring the process, progress and results working within the Framestore pipeline
Evaluate the creative requirements of a project, determine the technical implications and make high-level operational decisions (e.g. the balance between third party tools versus proprietary development and the selection of specific technical methodologies)
Raise issues with R&D and Pipeline teams in order to improve tools and functionality
Determine, modify and maintain the most effective and efficient technical approach and workflow possible
Conduct reviews as final quality control on all deliveries of shots prior to VFX Supervisor and client review
Eliminate potential problems in pipeline tools before they impact on production
Assist the HODs and Department Managers in the casting of 3D artists to ensure the right fit, skills and experience required for projects and teams
Work with the data, technology and pipeline teams to deliver an efficient project in terms of rendering, workflows and data management.
Problem solving when there are issues in departments, flagging areas where there are risks and issues and solving them with the support of the Head of CG
Understanding and supporting the Framestore global pipeline, attending global CG meetings and keeping up to date with company wide technological developments and approaches to CG.
