Who We Are
Framestore combines talent and technology to bring life to everything we create, whether in film, TV, advertising or immersive experiences. Driven by creativity and inspired by the future, we set out every day to reframe the possible.

The Role

Technical Artists as part of our Immersive Division are responsible for working alongside Developers and Artists in devising and implementing internal prototypes and delivering high-quality products and projects for both IP and brand clients across a range of mediums on cutting-edge hardware - including VR, AR, real-time animation and other emerging platforms.

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of both the art and technical side of Unreal Engine, with a problem-solving mindset; a keen interest in realtime lighting would be advantageous.

  • Work with the Real-time Supervisor, Lead Tech Artist or Lead Developer to design interactive experiences using (predominantly) Unreal

  • Material Creation - Design complex materials in Unreal and instruct artists on best practices

  • Lighting - Be well versed in the various lighting techniques in Unreal and instruct the artists in lighting best practices

  • Optimisation - Optimise content through profiling and enhancing performance with the help of diagnostic tools and instructing the artists on modelling and texturing best practices

  • Collaborate with programmers to develop and test new features, prototype shader code, and provide useful feedback during R&D phases

  • A demonstrable level of technical knowledge combined with strong creative and visual instinct

Job requirements

What we're looking for:

  • Experience working with Unreal Engine

  • Advanced experience with Unreal's Blueprints system

  • Advanced experience with Maya and/or Houdini

  • Experience with VR/AR authoring in Unreal

You might also have:

  • Scripting skills with MEL, Python, C#, Javascript and C++

  • Positive attitude towards learning and sharing

  • Deadline-oriented; able to work in a fast-paced environment
