This is a hybrid position within the London team with 2 office days per week on average, you will need to be based in the UK and have the right to work here.

The Role

We are looking for an FX artist (mid level) to join our London-based Immersive team, working on exciting Immersive projects bridging the gap between our VFX and Realtime workflows.

The ideal candidate would have a portfolio that can demonstrate being able to create FX for pre-rendered and performant Realtime projects, with CG renditions of naturalistic physical or magical phenomena such as fire, water, clouds, smoke, physical destruction and particulate.

What you'll do:

  • Work alongside a team of FX TDs and Technical Artists to supply the FX elements for the project

  • Creating particle, rigid-body, fluid, cloth, fur and/or hair simulations or animations

  • Develop lighting/materials that work with the FX to produce the final rendered image or runtime content

  • Using a variety of commercial and proprietary FX tools including Houdini & Maya, for execution as realtime elements in Unreal Engine

  • Working in partnership with other departments to ensure that shots are delivered to the highest possible standard

  • Designing and creating images, elements, effects, pipelines, tools and techniques

Job requirements

Core Experience

  • Previous experience with Unreal Engine & Niagara

  • An excellent knowledge of Houdini

  • A thorough understanding of the techniques and technologies relating to simulated and procedural FX

  • Previous experience producing effects for environments such as smoke, fire, clouds, water, steam, destruction and explosions

  • A good understanding of animation

  • A good understanding of the entire visual effects process within Games, VFX or similar adjacent industry

  • A familiarity with pipeline issues, especially working between multiple packages

  • Strong understanding of flipbook animation and vertex animation

Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge of other simulation packages, such as EmberGen

  • Experience with other render packages or real-time engines, such as Unity or 1st party

  • Familiarity with UE Blueprints

  • Strong Vex, Hscript, Python and/or Mel scripting skills
