Rigging Technical Directors are responsible for designing, creating and maintaining highly accurate and efficient rigs for high-end visual effects films.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Realtime Rigging TD to join our growing team, working at the intersection of visualisation and real-time production. In this role, you’ll be developing character rigs and technical animation solutions for a range of exciting film and episodic projects using Unreal Engine. This is an opportunity to work with some of the best in the business, pushing creative and technical boundaries.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Build and maintain high-quality real-time character rigs and technical animation systems using Control Rig, Animation Blueprints and Sequencer in Unreal Engine.

  • Collaborate closely with character artists, animators and supervisors to ensure rigging specifications and animation workflows are production-ready and artist-friendly.

  • Optimise character assets and systems for real-time performance, including skeletal meshes, control hierarchies and animation data.

  • Help develop and expand our real-time rigging tools and pipeline, ensuring scalability and ease of use.

  • Support and mentor artists in rigging and animation best practices within Unreal.

  • Translate existing assets and animation data for real-time use, including work from both Art Departments and VFX teams.

  • Maintain documentation for rigging and animation workflows to support a consistent pipeline.

Job requirements

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in real-time rigging workflows, with a solid understanding of skeletal mesh optimisation, bone hierarchies, skinning, constraints and blendshapes.

  • Proficiency with Unreal Engine’s Control Rig, Animation Blueprints and Sequencer tools.

  • Strong grasp of animation principles and procedural animation techniques.

  • Confident using Maya for rigging and technical animation.

  • Experience with motion capture clean-up and retargeting workflows.

Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge of MetaHuman Creator and real-time character systems.

  • End-to-end understanding of digital character creation, including modelling, facial rigging, skinning, and cloth/hair simulation.

  • Familiarity with scripting (Python, MEL, or C++) and a variety of content creation tools.
