Job description

The multi-Oscar-winning creative Film & Episodic Studio at Framestore has worked with some of the greatest storytellers in film today. Collaborating with directors and producers across the complete filmmaking process to help design, plan and create beautiful images, we focus on finding innovative creative solutions to support their vision and set new standards for visual effects in cinema.

Framestore combines talent and technology to bring life to everything we create. Driven by creativity and inspired by the future, we set out every day to reframe the possible.

About the role

This is a senior role within our Visual Development team for an artist who brings both deep craft and genuine creative leadership. You'll operate at the intersection of concept and execution — shaping the visual language of major productions, driving technical innovation, and helping define how our team works. You'll bring extensive experience across traditional workflows, compositing, and generative tools, and you'll be as comfortable mentoring artists as you are solving the hardest visual problems on a show.

What you'll do

  • Lead the creation of high-end visual development imagery across a wide range of styles, from hyper-realistic to highly stylised, setting the bar for quality across the team.

  • Champion the integration of generative tools like ComfyUI into production workflows, establishing best practices and helping others get the most from them.

  • Apply expert-level Nuke compositing skills to create sophisticated "living" concepts that directly inform and reflect our final VFX pipeline.

  • Drive the adoption of emerging technologies — including Gaussian Splatting and beyond — positioning Framestore's creative offering at the frontier of the industry.

  • Work closely with supervisors and the HOD to shape the strategic direction of Visual Development, ensuring your work supports seamless transitions into 2D/3D production at scale.

  • Act as a clear and credible communicator of complex technical and creative processes, bridging the gap between artists and senior stakeholders including directors and producers.

  • Take an active role in building team culture — mentoring artists, leading knowledge-sharing sessions, and raising the standard of craft and process across the department.

Job requirements

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating sophisticated visual development work with a commanding understanding of frame and shot composition across multiple production contexts.

  • Significant experience in film VFX, with deep knowledge of 3D processes and a confident grasp of cinematography in virtual environments.

  • Expert-level Nuke compositing skills, with the ability to build and lead complex workflows.

  • A proven track record of embedding generative AI tools — specifically ComfyUI — into professional creative pipelines at a high level.

  • A sharp eye for visual problems, with the experience to anticipate issues early and the authority to drive solutions without close supervision.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workload and output across multiple concurrent projects.

You might also have

  • Substantial experience in Digital Matte Painting.

  • In-depth knowledge of practical cameras, lighting, or physics applied to virtual production contexts.

  • Solid skills in Modelling, Texturing, or real-time render engines (Unreal, Octane, Keyshot).

  • Hands-on experience with Gaussian Splatting or other frontier imaging techniques, ideally with a view on where the technology is heading.
